J-DAY 2026 HIGHLIGHTS
Hundreds of Scholastic Journalists Flock to 2026 J-Day Conference
The 2026 J-Day Conference on March 27 was an exhilarating day of professional learning and networking for nearly 575 high school journalists and their publication advisers from the District of Columbia and across Maryland. The annual full-day conference was hosted by the University of Maryland’s Merrill College of Journalism.
Students who are involved in newspapers, yearbooks, broadcasting and social media soaked up knowledge and gained new skills from professionals with The Washington Post, National Public Radio, PBS Newshour, the Banner Montgomery, the Pulitzer Center and other professional news organizations as well as faculty members from Merrill College.
Topical sessions addressed interviewing, reporting, headline writing, yearbook design and trends, journalism ethics and press law, podcasting, videography, sports photography, journalism careers today and more. Student panels focused on leadership of high school publications and what it’s like to study journalism in college.
